Grilled Cheeseburgers

Grilled Cheeseburgers

These Grilled Cheeseburgers are my base template for great burgers. They’re excellent as is, but also fun to embellish with the whim of the moment. Add in some green chilies, bacon, onions, or roasted garlic to put a fun spin in the mix, or on top. Good quality meat and restraint are the most important building blocks for an excellent burger. I love a good burger, and I routinely top mine with far too many veggies.

A great quality bun is essential to me. Homemade or good deli kaiser rolls are ideal. But make sure your buns have some structural integrity without adding too much bread volume to the balance of the burger. I’m spoiled with a dad who loves to bake bread. He’s branched out to burger buns and they’re the perfect home for a juicy burger patty. Serve it up with a side of fries, BBQ Beans, potato salad, or macaroni salad for the perfect meal.

We watch the ads for great bulk deals on meat routinely. I recommend either high qualify ground beef from the butcher shop or grind your own from chuck roasts. When we’re stocking the freezer, I make up a large quantity of the burger mix, form them and vacuum seal packages of 4 so we can pull a package out of the freezer anytime we feel like a burger. They’re also an easy item to grab for a camping trip. Prepare a few toppings and grill them up for that first night when you just want to kick back.

Grilled Cheeseburgers are such a comfort food for me. I love burgers. They’re even better on a warm summer evening on the patio with a cold beverage and my favorite people. They automatically remove formalities and transport to a happy place. Add in a little music and kick back to enjoy the evening breeze.

These Grilled Cheeseburgers are excellent as is, and also delicious to add variety with some green chilies, bacon, onions, or roasted garlic and pineapple. Make sure you start with great quality meat and use a sturdy bun that's not too bready. Top with your favorites: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and condiments of your choosing.
