Fanny Farmer Brownies

Fanny Farmer Brownies

Fanny Farmer Brownies are the perfect sweet treat. Serve them alone or with vanilla ice cream. Super quick to throw together and so much better than any mix. Just a few ingredients and 35 minutes will give you a great unplanned dessert.

I learned to bake when I was 2 or 3 years old and stood on a chair to “help”. I measured, stirred, and became the chief cookie inspector. Right away, I learned that the flour didn’t taste very good until it was mixed into everything else. And, those things on top of the stove were HOT! I memorized the Fanny Farmer Brownie recipe before I could read and it’s still my favorite version.

I’ll never forget the first time I made Brownies for my husband, Mike. He mentioned that they sounded good, but we didn’t have a boxed mix. He left the room for a couple of minutes and I threw a batch together. Before long the house was smelling like delightful chocolate. About 40 minutes after his initial comment, I was pulling a pan of Brownies out of the oven and he was stunned.

I’ve tried to make brownies without nuts, but the texture just isn’t the same. I’ve also tried a number of boxed mixes, but it takes about the same amount of time and I don’t like them as well as the old fashioned Fanny Farmer Brownies. You can easily double the batch but I don’t recommend letting them sit for more than a day or two, stale brownies just aren’t great. Make them fresh, make them often.

Classic, simple, slightly chewy brownies. Not fluffy, but not fudgy, just brownie perfection.
